I naturally smell like that. But I lied and told someone I was wearing cologne and now I have to find one that smells like that, along with something that smells entirely different to wear if we have another trial.
Would it not be more work to try to do this than just admit it?
[ Truly smelling like a warm campfire could be weird but as far as Marcoh is concerned, they literally have furries and a three-eyed girl. He's stopped questioning, at least personally. ]
It's...people in my world can hide their true forms, but there's always something about their true form present in whatever their current form is. For me it's my eyes, my smell, and the marks on my back. Which is why covering up my smell would be helpful.
That does sound nice, actually. But I don't think I need it. Normally I can change back and forth at will. I just stick to my human form because it makes it easier to live in the city.

[He is making it sound so much worse than it actually is.]

[ Fortunately or unfortunately for Ali, Marcoh is not a guy that questions too much. ]
Like... two colognes that smell completely differently?
no subject
[He says this like it doesn't sound insane.]
If I don't find it then it's going to cause problems later.

Like literal smoke?
[ Should they get a fire... ]

Is that the kind of smell you like?
no subject
[Fuck.]

[So yes, it would be worse to admit to lying.]
Plus if I tell him he's going to ask why I smell like a campfire, and I really don't want any of that going around.
no subject
What about the other one, that you said has to be different?
[ What're you looking for for that? ]

[...]

You are forced to hide your true form?
[ What DO Ali's eyes look like? ]
no subject
[They're a normal human shape, but the pupils are bright red. Like, 'not a normal human eye color' bright red.]
no subject
[ But he'll still help Ali. ]
Maybe a little smoker to keep around? Just say you like to cook a lot.
[ Or he can hand him some fancy-ass cologne. ]
no subject
[A pause.]
What's the Change festival?
no subject
[ Weird! But kinda cool. What if Ali went blond. ]

no subject
Well, gestures to the cologne at any rate. How is that one? ]
no subject
...I really should just tell him, huh. He's not human either, he'll probably understand...
[He will still take the cologne to wear at the next trial though, to avoid this whole problem.]
Thank you for helping me. I know I seem scatterbrained right now.

Not much good will come out of dwelling in what else happened. Everyone else will be doing that already.
no subject
[But now that Marcoh brought it up he's thinking about it.]
Today really was awful.
no subject
Now we know what happens if there is more than one killer.
[ He doesn't want to say it out loud, but it feels almost encouraging. Be less heinous than the other person and you might just get away with it. ]
no subject
Be less of a target in any way possible, I suppose.
no subject
I'm not sure that there is any golden rule to being less of a target.
no subject
[He doesn't know what will make someone less of a target though. That's what makes this so difficult.]
It's concerning times now. Keep yourself safe, alright?
